Being recognized as a Top 50 Under 50 honoree in 2017 was a pivotal moment in my journey, validating my commitment to community health and wellness in Fort McMurray.

It pushed me to elevate my standards—not just for myself, but for Hines Health Services (HHS). The recognition sparked a deeper desire to continually innovate and expand our services, amplifying my drive to make a meaningful contribution to the well-being of our region.

That acknowledgment wasn’t just about celebrating the work we’ve done, but also about motivating me to strive for even greater impact.

As this year’s official Alumni Partner for the program, it’s both an honour and a responsibility. Supporting a program that highlights the changemakers in our community is deeply rewarding. Fort McMurray is a place defined by resilience, and I envision the Top 50 Under 50 program growing to inspire younger generations to get involved and contribute to our region’s future. It’s exciting to see how the program has evolved and how it continues to showcase the many ways people are shaping our community. I’m proud to be a part of that evolution, as we work together to drive ongoing, positive change.

At Hines Health Services, I’m proud of several initiatives that reflect our commitment to not only workplace health but to broader community building. We’ve worked on programs that enhance workplace safety in major industries, introduced a scholarship for Indigenous students at Keyano College, and have actively recruited healthcare professionals to Fort McMurray—serving as ambassadors for the region. One of our most rewarding efforts is our mentorship program, which gives local nursing students hands-on experience in occupational health. These milestones aren’t just professional successes for us—they are reflections of our deep commitment to the well-being and growth of this community.

Of course, every career has its challenges. For me, navigating the growth of HHS while staying true to Fort McMurray’s unique needs has been an ongoing challenge, particularly during crises like the wildfires and the COVID-19 pandemic. These were trying times, but our team’s resilience and adaptability were key. We remained flexible, explored new approaches, and found innovative solutions. That resilience, in turn, positioned us for continued success and growth, allowing us to continue supporting our community during the most critical times.

To this year’s Top 50 Under 50 recipients, my advice is simple: stay open to possibilities, even in the most unexpected places. Growth often requires taking bold steps, and sometimes that means embracing change. Hold onto your values, and surround yourself with a strong, supportive network. The relationships you build will be invaluable as you make your own mark on this community.

What sets Top 50 Under 50 honorees apart is a shared drive to make a difference. Success in both business and life comes from doing what’s right for the right reasons, even when it’s hard. Integrity, resilience, and a deep respect for others are the bedrock of lasting impact.

As for Fort McMurray, I’ve watched it evolve into a resilient, dynamic community that’s increasingly focused on diversification and sustainability. What excites me most is the region’s potential to become a model of innovation in industries beyond energy. This transformation inspires me to keep contributing to its growth and to continue attracting people to experience all that northern Alberta has to offer. The opportunities here are truly remarkable.

Recognition programs like Top 50 Under 50 play a crucial role in shaping the future of a community. They celebrate individuals who are committed to positive change and set an example for others to follow. These honorees show that success isn’t about individual achievement—it’s about the collective impact we make. Being recognized as part of this program means you’re not just leading—you’re inspiring others to contribute to the greater good.

Looking ahead, my goals for the next five to 10 years include expanding the reach of HHS while deepening our roots in Fort McMurray. I’m currently completing my MBA, and I’m excited to apply the lessons I’ve learned to drive growth and innovation in our business. I’m also dedicated to mentoring the next generation of professionals and strengthening partnerships within our community to ensure we all continue to thrive.

For me, success is no longer just about personal achievement—it’s about making a positive impact on others. Over time, my definition of success has evolved from focusing solely on individual accomplishments to fostering empowerment and growth in others. True success, I believe, is about creating lasting change and contributing to the well-being of our community as a whole.
