Swamp Rat Experience to Debut Milestone New Production at Keyano Theatre

Swamp Rat Experience is proud to present Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again by award‑winning Nigerian playwright and theatre director Ola Rotimi, running November 5, 6, and 7, 2026 on the main stage at Keyano Theatre. This show marks a significant milestone for the region as the first African theatre production ever staged on the Keyano Theatre main stage, bringing vibrant cultural storytelling to one of Fort McMurray’s most prominent artistic venues.
Directed by Lola Taiwo, the play is a sharp and hilarious political comedy that follows Major Lejoka‑Brown, a blustering former soldier who charges into public life with the tactics of military combat. His confidence is loud, his strategies are questionable, and his attempts to command the political arena create a steady stream of chaos and laughter.
Beneath the humour is a resonant narrative shaped by strong, intelligent women who challenge expectations and often prove to be the wisest voices in the room. Their clarity and determination bring heart and insight to Lejoka‑Brown’s misadventures, grounding the comedy in real social change.
“I believe our stories deserve to be experienced, celebrated, and shared,” says Director Lola Taiwo. “They allow us to laugh at ourselves, ground us in our shared humanity, challenge familiar expectations, and keep a part of home alive, even when we are far away.”
This production builds on the momentum created by Swamp Rat Experience’s sold‑out staging of Wole Soyinka’s The Lion and the Jewel in early 2026. That production drew remarkable engagement from new artists and audiences, demonstrating a clear demand for culturally diverse performing arts in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo. Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again continues this commitment by showcasing diverse and inclusive performing arts, expanding representation on local stages, and offering audiences a lively blend of comedy, cultural texture, and social commentary.
Performances take place November 5, 6, and 7, 2026 at Keyano Theatre. Tickets are available through the Keyano Box Office and swampratexperience.com/our-mad-husband.
