Truly Living: Fresh & Flavourful Spring Eats

Spring is a time of renewal, and what better way to embrace the season than by refreshing your home and table with vibrant, seasonal foods?

As the founder of Truly Living with Heather—formerly known as Thyme with Heather—I’ve always loved celebrating the beauty of each season through food and simple touches that bring joy to everyday life.

One of the easiest ways to invite spring into your home is with fresh blooms. A bouquet of tulips is usually around $5, and a few of them can instantly brighten any space, adding a pop of colour and a sense of warmth. But beyond décor, spring is also the perfect time to lighten up your meals with fresh, flavorful ingredients.

In this article, I’ll share some of my favourite ways to incorporate seasonal foods into your cooking—keeping your plate light, colourful, and full of taste. Plus, I’ll include some of my family’s go-to spring-inspired recipes to help you make the most of this vibrant time of year!

Spring is the season when we want to welcome light and fresh foods. Foods like fresh greens and crisp vegetables.

Some of my spring eating tips include:

Leafy Greens: Like spinach and arugula, make for a great salad with added crisp vegetables like bell peppers, cucumber, etc.

Herbs: Now is the time to use fresh herbs. Whether making homemade salad dressings or simply bringing freshness back to meals after a winter of heavy comfort foods, this is a great time to get back some freshness. This is also a great time to start growing your herbs at home.

Light proteins: Foods like grilled fish and chicken are great choices to make during the spring season.

Colourful foods: Start reaching for those foods that are bright in colour and make your plate look more attractive and appetizing. This is easy to do now that most of our produce is back in season.

Refresh your water: Infuse your water with fresh lemon, mint, and cucumber for a seasonal, healthy and delightful detoxifying drink. Make your ice cubes with berries, lemon or lime for added colour and flavour.

Here are some lighter recipes you may want to try as we welcome spring:
