For those who haven’t experienced East Village Pub on a Friday or Saturday night – the best way to describe it is a community gathering. Was there a wedding in town? An early Halloween party? Chances are you’ll see members from both parties popping in for a few drinks afterwards. Add in the bachelorette party who’ve been doing shots since dinner, and the patio crowd who’ve moved indoors and you’re looking at one busy place. That’s where Rose, and the rest of the bartending team come into play. Surrounded by friends and new friends at the wood looking for drinks or to pay their tab in a quick manner – and ensuring the waitresses can keep up with table service it’s quite easy to get overwhelmed. Celebrating her 15th year behind the wood this year, Rose is a true pro who’s seen it all! Rose’s favourite drink on nights off is a Guinness with a shot of Van Gogh Double Espresso but she hasn’t been drinking any these days as she is currently pregnant with her second child. Luckily, Rose loves to enjoy East Village Pub’s Stuffed Carrot Cake which helped EVP win Best Dessert and prevent Mitchell’s from earning the threepeat.
For Angel Vandale, her regulars are like family. She treats them right by always remembering their drink orders and greeting them with a friendly smile and they treat her right in return. Of course, that’s not to say the life of a server is without challenges. Take a recent installation of Tavern On Main’s legendary Open Mic Night (every Thursday) that ended up a lot busier than anticipated. Angel, working solo, was able to keep the train on the tracks and ensure everyone’s glasses were full even when a party of fifteen came in at midnight to catch a glimpse of Fort McMurray’s finest musicians in action. What might be a nightmare for a less experienced server was just par for the course for Angel, who will be celebrating her tenth and final year at the Tavern On Main this summer. Angel, who is currently expecting her second child plans will be going on maternity leave this July and then her and her husband Nick are planning a move to Kelowna to be closer to family in early 2023. “Being voted Best Server is an amazing way to end my ten-year stint in Fort McMurray”, says Vandale. “Thank you to everyone who voted. Be sure to visit me for a J-Bomb before I leave and let’s make it a summer to remember!”
DID YOU KNOW?
Both Rose & Angel will be pouring bottles of a different kind soon as both are currently pregnant, and still kicking butt ensuring their customers receive the best possible night out!

They are regulated under the Alberta Health Professions Act and their goal is to look for a root cause and connect the dots between all your health concerns. Your McMurray Magazine’s Mike Jones dropped in for a visit and received a B12 injection. Mike noticed an immediate boost in energy and felt an overall improvement in his mood for several days after.
