CLASS OF 2016
, AGE 34
, 9 YEAR RESIDENT
Born and raised in the small town of Fortune, Newfoundland, 34-year-old Dan Tulk spent time in Corner Brook, St. John’s and England before moving to Fort McMurray.
He completed his Arts and Education Bachelor degrees at Memorial University before beginning a quick teaching career in Kent, England. When he moved to Fort McMurray, Dan got his start as a substitute teacher with the Fort McMurray Public School District. His temporary contract at Westwood High School was soon made permanent, and he has been at Westwood since. For the past five years, Dan has served as Vice Principal.
Outside of school, Dan can be seen performing, as a solo act or with a band, at most local pubs in and around Fort McMurray, as well as private and corporate events. Dan has been playing in bands since the age of 16, and by his early 20s he was busy gigging, teaching music, and performing with national jazz recording artist, Lloyd Bartlett.
The electric feel of a city far larger than Wood Buffalo is one of Dan’s favourite things about living here. The uniqueness of this community that encompasses people from all over the world, the sense of community and charity like no other really stands out.
Dan’s passion for his family, education, and arts in the region sets him apart. He vehemently defends our region, and his excitement for our community is palpable...earning him his spot on Your McMurray Magazine’s Top 50 Under 50.
