Jamie Attfield
CLASS OF 2021
, AGE 38
Originally from Sunshine Hills North Delta, British Columbia, Jamie Attfield now calls Fort McMurray home, where he works at Northstar Ford Lincoln, and volunteers with CISM for Communities, Choices Association, and snapd Wood Buffalo.
He spoke with YMM about risks and motivation.
YMM: What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
JA:
Moving away from home for the first time in my life to start a new life here in this community. It was a huge leap of faith into the unknown. At first, looking back, all I had to call my own were two suitcases and my dreams.
YMM: What’s the biggest challenge you’ve taken on this year?
JA:
Persevering through financial turmoils created by COVID-19 conditions to help others facing tough times, advocating for mental health and wellness by rebuilding CISM for Communities, and supporting local small businesses with snapd Wood Buffalo while coaching individual members over their hurdles.
YMM: What motivates you?
JA:
Shout out to the narcissists throughout my life journey. You are one of many reasons why I strive to be everything you are not. Shout out to the bad managers and poor employers who taught me how to never treat employees or clients by example. Plus, all the previous bad co-workers and abusive teachers who said I’d never be anything, it just made me want to prove you all wrong even more.
YMM: What are you best at?
JA:
Wordsmithing unique empathetic, inspirational, motivational and supportive philosophy others can enjoy, share, relate with and grow from.
YMM: What is the most rewarding part of your career?
JA:
Being able to watch others grow from the tools provided to them by my giving and caring ways. Then, act in similar ways to help others just as I had. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
