Hailing from Ottawa, Ontario, Jeff Batchelor has called Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo home for the past six years, where he works at Legacy Dodge as an Automotive Solutions Expert. He is optimistic, adventurous, passionate, and measures success in the good you do for others. YMM: What accomplishment are you most proud of? JB: When I started selling cars in Fort McMurray in 2017 I had no idea that my results would quickly measure up to be among the best in the entire country. I have won multiple awards not only from my brand but also my dealership over the last five years. I am incredibly proud of the work I do and the service I provide at my job, but even prouder of what my success has allowed me to do for Fort McMurray. Since my very first month in sales at Legacy Dodge, I have made a financial contribution to a different community club, team, organization, fundraiser, event or charity. In the last 70 months, I have proudly donated over $70,000 to Fort McMurray causes including hockey, baseball, volleyball, soccer, cheerleading, gymnastics, dance teams, Girl Guides, the SPCA, United Way, Northern Lights Health Foundation and the list goes on. I have a wall of fame in my office with plaques, medals, photos and trophies of all the leagues, teams and companies I have supported. There is nothing in my life that makes me prouder than seeing this wall grow each month and I have no plans of it ever slowing down. YMM: Tell us about your volunteer experience in the community. JB: I started volunteering and giving back the very first month I arrived! My first position was with the Centre of Hope at the intake desk. Then I got involved with Big Brothers and Big Sisters where I was matched with a 9-year-old boy and have been blessed and fortunate to mentor and watch him grow and mature over the last five years. In 2018 I challenged myself to 100 hours of community service which led me to dressing as the Winter Games mascot, picking up garbage and serving at an annual Christmas dinner held at a downtown school. Two more notable events I took part in were the Fire and Ice Challenge 2022 where I spent 24 hours on Gregoire Lake in the middle of winter with only what I could pack with me and sleeping in a shelter I had constructed. With my social media presence, I was able to gain awareness and raise $5,000 for that effort. The other was in 2023 when I volunteered to be Locked in a Kennel for the SPCA and also used my social media presence to collect over $2,500 in donations. I love this community and will continue to show my support and love by always being involved. YMM: What does community mean to you? JB: Community means looking out for one another. Community means everyone works together to take care of their neighbours. In business, I have created strong relationships with “like” businesses to mine so we can share referrals, advertise and support each other. I work in automotive sales so I am always promoting mobile glass companies, vehicle detail businesses, body shops, window tint experts and more. At home it means watching your neighbor’s pets, keeping an eye on their place when they go away, being there in an emergency or injury and sharing quality time with each other. We are all in this life together and the more we give, the more everyone gains.
