CLASS OF 2021

, AGE 31

Hailing from Picton, Ontario, Kaitlyn Campbell followed her (now) husband to Fort McMurray and now works for the Wood Buffalo Food Bank.

She lives by the words, “Just be yourself, you know what you’re here to do”, and recently sat down with YMM to chat about her career and how she measures success.

YMM: What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?

KC:

The biggest risk I have ever taken would have to be making the move to Fort McMurray. When my boyfriend (now husband) secured full time work here, I left my job and made the move a few months after him. I did not know anyone here other than him and did not have a job lined up for when I got here. I was extremely fortunate to have found a job shortly after I arrived here and got settled, but it was the first time in my life where I just went for it without really having things planned ahead of time.

YMM: What is the most rewarding part of your career?

KC:

I would have to say the most rewarding part of my career is seeing people grow. For those that come see us it’s seeing the change from when they first come in and over time hearing their stories and being able to be a small part of a positive change in their lives is extremely rewarding.

YMM: For what are you most grateful?

KC:

I’m honestly most grateful for the support within this community. It’s so amazing to see everyone come together to help out those in need directly, or indirectly through supporting the various social profits in the region that work with those who need the support.

YMM: How should success be measured?

KC:

I think success should be measured by how you feel. I think when you’ve accomplished something no matter how big or small you should feel really great about that. There are so many different ways to be successful at things, but overall the greatest measure of success is how happy you are with everything you’ve achieved.

YMM: What accomplishment are you most proud of?

KC:

In recent years I would have to say completing the Leadership Wood Buffalo program is pretty high up there. Towards the end of our cohort year is when the pandemic started and we had to adjust and adapt how we worked together which was a challenge. But overall I was so proud of the results that came out of the group I worked with as well as the cohort as a whole. It was an amazing experience that I will always treasure.
