Lindsay Dickinson
Building Community Through Action and Heart
CLASS OF 2025
When Lindsay Dickinson arrived in Fort McMurray 17 years ago, she didn’t foresee becoming a familiar name in both the workplace and the community. Originally from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, she made the move north for opportunity. What she found was a region that shaped her sense of purpose and inspired her to give back in meaningful, lasting ways.
By day, Lindsay works as a Turnaround Outage Coordinator at Syncrude, a role that demands collaboration, foresight, and precision. It’s a career built on teamwork and problem-solving, and Lindsay says the most rewarding part is knowing her work has a positive effect on others. “Whether it’s helping a team succeed, supporting local initiatives, or making someone’s day a little brighter, knowing that my efforts made a difference is what motivates me,” she says.
It’s that same attitude she brings to her life outside of work. Lindsay is best known for organizing the annual Grand Slam Slo-Pitch Tournament, a community staple that brings people together for sport, connection, and fundraising. She also coordinates team volunteer opportunities, supports seniors through meal delivery programs, and regularly spends time playing bocce ball with residents at MacDonald Island. For her, leadership isn’t about the spotlight; it’s about showing up, including others, and creating pathways for people to contribute.
Lindsay is quick to point out that nothing she does happens in isolation. Her family and support system have been central to every decision she has made. She credits them with teaching her that leadership is collective, not individual. “Their support reminds me to lead with empathy and to prioritize the well-being of others,” she says. “Meaningful change is a collective effort.”
Becoming a mother deepened that perspective. Lindsay is intentional about helping shape a community where her child can grow up surrounded by connection and inclusivity. She sees a direct link between the strength of families, the vitality of local programs, and the stability of the workforce. “Living in Fort McMurray and working in the Oil Sands, I’ve seen how much this region gives, and I’ve felt a strong responsibility to give back,” she explains.
Lindsay’s involvement is guided by the belief that showing up matters, whether for seniors, colleagues, neighbours, or local initiatives. Her experiences in a fast-paced industry have reinforced the importance of resilience and long-term thinking, while motherhood has grounded her in empathy and intentionality. Those combined values shape how she approaches both community challenges and opportunities.
When she looks at the region today, she sees both strengths and responsibilities. Managing economic growth while ensuring long-term sustainability—socially and environmentally—is an ongoing priority. Maintaining a sense of connectedness in a transient, fast-moving community is another. For Lindsay, the key lies in collaboration. She believes industry, residents, and local organizations must work together to invest in community programs, support local leadership, and create spaces where people feel heard and valued.
Lindsay doesn’t seek recognition, and she’s the first to say she prefers to work behind the scenes. But her impact is unmistakable. Whether she’s coordinating volunteers, mentoring colleagues, or building a ball tournament from the ground up, her efforts ripple across the community. She sees her role in regional development not through titles or committees, but through consistent engagement. “When we bring energy, empathy, and collaboration to the table, we help shape a region that’s not only prosperous but truly connected,” she says.
Looking ahead, Lindsay plans to continue growing her skills so she can make an even greater difference. Professionally, she wants to contribute to solutions that support both her company and the wider community. Personally, she aims to keep being a catalyst for positive change…one project, one connection, and one conversation at a time.
She may not seek the spotlight, but her actions speak volumes. Fort McMurray is stronger because Lindsay Dickinson continues to roll up her sleeves, rally others, and lead with heart.
