When Mike Jones talks about who inspires him it is easy to see how he became who he is today. If you never had the pleasure of watching the late 1990’s - early 2000’s TV game show “Uh-Oh”, or you can’t remember who Wink Yahoo is, I suggest you give it a quick Google. He was crazy, and funny, and people loved him for it. Mike says this inspired him to be his genuine self. Even now, you can understand where Mike takes his inspiration. As Afternoon Drive Show host on Country 93.3, Mike is inspired by broadcasters like Ron McLean, who have become experts in their field.
Mike’s love of radio started at a young age. When he was young, his parents got him a toy tape recorder which he used to record himself introducing songs like he does on the radio now. Mike never imagined he could do radio full time. He started broadcasting school only taking one class during the evenings, but fell in love before graduating from the full Radio and Television Arts course at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. After that he was fully committed.
The first thing Mike will tell you is that “radio is not a 9-5 job” and he has taken that to heart. Mike is so involved in the community, that he often has an event to attend every day in the week! Though he is kept busy, the music and arts community drives Mike to stay involved. His goal is to continue promoting the musical talent that our region has, which he is doing as Director of Music and Vice Chair with Arts Council Wood Buffalo. Mike’s favourite thing about Fort McMurray is the sense of community here. He says that when he first moved here, everyone welcomed him with open arms, and that he is only trying to return that kindness, and he is only getting started.
