YMM: What keeps you in Fort McMurray?
NR: Working in the oils sands has provided so many opportunities to develop and grow a career and provide a great life for my family. So much from the oil sands is invested back into the community to make it a better place to live. This is a wonderful place to have a family with so many facilities and programs for children.
YMM: In your opinion, in what areas does Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo need improvement?
NR: The message is starting to get out there about how wonderful Fort McMurray really is. However, I believe there is still work to do to promote our community and region.
YMM: What does community mean to you?
NR: The Fort McMurray community is unique. Many of us have what I like to call our Fort McMurray families. The feeling of fellowship is strong, with most people sharing the fact they moved from other parts of Canada and the world. Community is a sense of belonging.
YMM: What is your volunteer experience in the community?
NR: I’ve always contributed to the Syncrude United Way employee campaign, however my commitment to take action was inspired after attending my first Seeing is Believing tour. This opportunity reinforced the importance of the programing funded by United Way to their partnering agencies and the impact it has on our community.
YMM: How should success be measured?
NR: By the fulfillment you feel for what you have contributed.
