Sheri Anthony
CLASS OF 2023
, AGE 45
Focused, dependable, and hard-working, Sheri measures success by the number of people she feels she’s had a positive impact on. YMM: What is the biggest challenge that you’ve taken on this year? SA: My biggest challenge is being more open to change and accepting things that I can not control. As Fort McMurray has seen change is a large part of our community and understanding the reason for changes is so important. So for me after the past few years from the fire, flooding and covid restrictions many of us have had to accept changes and learn how to grow and embrace it. YMM: What is the most rewarding part of your career? SA: I especially enjoy working with the fantastic residents of Fort McMurray. I get to work with supportive colleagues who always have a smile and I get to work with incredible partners throughout the Wood Buffalo region. YMM: What does community mean to you? SA: Community to me means having a safe and accepting place where I am free to pursue opportunities and share my experiences with others. It is a place that residents should feel proud to call home and who also want to see this place thrive and grow. YMM: What motivates you? SA: I take pride in my work and truly love seeing the smiles on the faces of the children who come into the library and attend our programs. YMM: What are you most grateful for? SA: I am most grateful for health, family and love. YMM: How have your priorities changed in the last 10 years? SA: Putting family first is a top priority as finding that work/life balance can be challenging. I’ve also realized that it’s important to take time for yourself. YMM: What keeps you in Fort McMurray? SA: It is a great place to raise kids with lots of opportunities for them. I enjoy my work and I have built lasting relationships with friends and colleagues within the community. YMM: In your opinion, in what areas could Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo improve? SA: Our region could use more opportunities for teens in the community and additional support and/or opportunities for low-income families. YMM: Who is your hero, and why? SA: My mom is my hero. She was a strong lady, very supportive and was always there for my sisters and me no matter what. She had a strong work ethic and always put others first. YMM: What is one challenge that you would like to tackle in 2024? SA: I would like to get more involved with some of the committees in town I haven’t been a part of yet and get to know more aspects of the community better.
