CLASS OF 2023

, AGE 42

Jenny Price is the Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts’ Assistant Manager and has called Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo home her whole life. She is described as passionate, dedicated, and caring, and is motivated by the potential for growth. YMM: What is the most rewarding part of your career? JP: The most rewarding part of my career is working with creative and collaborative people. I love the energy that is created when people come together to solve problems or dream big. YMM: What accomplishment are you most proud of? JP: I tend to focus on the present! Currently, I am so proud to be an integral part of producing the musical Rent in Fort McMurray. More importantly than the show making it to the stage, our team had a vision for the entire process to make it accessible, welcoming, and a space where every individual is valued for their unique experience and perspective. Back in August 2022, we set lofty goals for this project and we have met or exceeded every one of them. YMM: Tell us about your volunteer experience in the community. JP: I have spent hundreds of hours volunteering at Keyano Theatre on stage and backstage. I have also volunteered my time on a couple of boards in the past including chairing the Squadron Sponsoring Committee for our local Air Cadet squadron and as the North Region Director for the Alberta Drama Festival Association. YMM: What keeps you in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo? JP: Fort McMurray people are passionate and tend to jump in to try to fill the gaps they see in our community. The isolated nature of the RMWB creates opportunities for local people to try their hand at all kinds of things they otherwise wouldn’t get to experience. The opportunities I have had to work in the arts would likely not have come my way in another community without the formal education to back up my experience. YMM: What does community mean to you? JP: To me, community is a group identity that individuals share. I am part of many communities. I am part of the arts community, the education community, my neighbourhood community, the community of those who grew up here and chose to stay, and many more! There are many communities that individuals can become a part of in Fort McMurray. Being part of so many communities makes my quality of life here very high. YMM: What is the best advice that you ever received? JP: Don’t take it personally, take it professionally. If someone is unhappy with something you have done it is so important to remember that it is not necessarily a personal attack. I have learned to step back and take a moment to self-reflect. If there is something I can and should change in my approach, I will! YMM: How have your priorities changed in the last 10 years? JP: In the last 10 years I have learned that there is no “right time” to do the things that are important to you. I have learned to prioritize what I need right now over some false perception of being able to create the perfect circumstances.
