Building Community and Futures

CLASS OF 2025

Josh Iannetti was born and raised in Fort McMurray, and his connection to the town runs deep. “I love this place because of the memories I’ve built here,” he says. “Whether it was running around Beacon Hill, sledding in Saprae, or playing road hockey uptown, those experiences shaped who I am and why I care so much about this community.”

A graduate of Thompson Rivers University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and Management, Josh now wears two hats professionally. He serves as General Manager of the Fort McMurray Giants Baseball Club and works in business development for Fort McMurray Infinity Cleaners. “The most rewarding part of my career has been the opportunity to create meaningful entertainment for our community through the Giants,” he says. “We’ve built an atmosphere where families can come to our games and truly enjoy their time together. Seeing our plans come to life and watching people have fun is incredibly fulfilling.”

Josh’s impact extends beyond the game itself. “It’s about bringing people together, fostering local pride, and inspiring the next generation,” he explains. “I’m especially proud of the role we’ve played in providing opportunities for players to further their education and pursue their dreams, whether through baseball or their post-secondary paths. Helping others take steps toward a brighter future is what makes this work truly meaningful.”

Family is at the heart of Josh’s motivation. “My wife, Breena, and our kids, Nash and Sunny, are always at the forefront,” he says. “Breena’s support, her understanding of the workload, and the way she lifts me up when things get tough mean more than I can say. Without her, I simply couldn’t do what I do.” Josh also credits his parents, Dutche and Dianne, as well as his brother Joey and sister Feliscia, for shaping the values he carries into his work. “Watching how hard they work for their own families has been inspiring,” he says. “Joey’s volunteer work with FMMBA set a gold-standard example of what community leadership looks like.”

Josh’s drive to give back stems from a sense of pride and gratitude for Fort McMurray. “I grew up seeing people pour their time and energy into making this town better, and that inspired me to do the same,” he says. “Community involvement isn’t just something extra; it’s a responsibility when you’re in a position to make a difference.”

Looking ahead, Josh has big goals for both his professional and personal life. “I want to continue expanding the Giants’ impact as a platform for community connection and youth development,” he says. “I’d love to create more programs that support local athletes, enhance game-day experiences, and further integrate the team into the heart of Fort McMurray. Personally, I’m focused on staying grounded in family and being present for my kids as they grow.”

He also sees challenges in the community but remains hopeful. “Rebuilding and sustaining a strong sense of connection after years of disruption has been tough,” Josh says. “We need to invest in meaningful experiences, youth programs, and opportunities for people to come together. Collaboration and empathy are key; if we can lead with that, I truly believe we can overcome any challenge.”

When asked how he envisions his role in shaping the future of Fort McMurray, Josh is clear. “I see myself as a leader and a facilitator, someone who helps create opportunities that strengthen our community,” he says. “Whether it’s through sports, partnerships, or new initiatives, my goal is to inspire others, collaborate with partners, and push for a future where this region is a place of opportunity and belonging for everyone.”

And when he’s not managing the Giants or working on community projects? “You’ll probably find me cheering on my kids, spending time with Breena, or just enjoying the little moments that make this town feel like home,” he says. “At the end of the day, it’s more than a game; it’s about building futures and bringing communities together.”
