Marsha Titus and Kayode Titus

Marsha Titus and Kayode Titus

CLASS OF 2022

, AGE 37 and 38

Marsha and Kayode Titus provide us with a strong example of love. As parents, community members, and workers who live, work, and play in our region, they demonstrate resilience in the face of life’s challenges, a strong commitment to each other and to their community during times of constant change and the courage to reach out for help when things get tough.

Deliberately building strong relationships with friends and family members, this couple shows us how to knit together a support system to celebrate the good times and provide support in times of need. Marsha and Kayode remind us all that living with integrity means developing communication skills while working towards a greater purpose. Marsha is the Language Services Coordinator with the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo, and Kayode is a Systems and Network Administrator Specialist with Acden, and together they chatted with YMM about their lives.

YMM: What does community mean to you?

MT: Community to me is the joining of people, from various walks of life, different ages, races, ethnicity, norms, values and beliefs all sharing a common ground and working together for a greater good.

YMM: What keeps you in Fort McMurray?

KT: I came to Fort McMurray for an employment opportunity and I am still grateful for my organization and the people I work with. I enjoy being able to commute 5 mins to work, surrounded by trails and rivers and able to actively make a difference in the place I call home.

YMM: Who is your hero, and why?

MT: I am my own hero, sounds a bit cocky but I am proud of my ability to rise above all that I have been through and remain as strong and resilient as I have. I have surprised even myself by having gone through some of the obstacles I have faced and am still standing today.

YMM: What is the best advice that you ever received?

KT: A Jamaican proverb: Humble Calf gets the most milk, which really means that the humble will reap the most reward in life. I try to stay true to this, always remembering where I started and remaining grateful for all my accomplishments.
