Meredith’s efforts to make Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo a better place do not go unnoticed. She supports many important programs and initiatives that would not exist without her.

As a Vice Principal with Fort McMurray Catholic School Division, Meredith volunteers much of her time making a difference in our community. YMM recently chatted with her to learn more about her life as one of this year’s Top 50 Under 50.

YMM: What is the most rewarding part of your career?

MM: Working in schools with children brings new celebrations and challenges.  Every endeavour is exciting and rewarding to be involved in, especially where the outcome can change the life of a child or a family forever.

YMM: What is the best advice that you ever received?

MM: You can do anything for one year, one week, one day, or one hour – whichever applies. My parents were very encouraging to get out and do things, even if I hated something it was only going to be for a finite amount of time. So I came to YMM for my first teaching job in August 2008 because my mom said, “you can do anything for one year!” …and that was 15 years ago!

YMM: What accomplishment are you most proud of?

MM: My job! Each day is a fresh start; an opportunity to change someone’s day for the better. I believe in equitable standards and I am fortunate to have a lifestyle where I am creating change and opening doors.

YMM: Describe your perfect day in YMM.

MM: A perfect day in YMM would start waking up without an alarm! I would enjoy a delicious coffee & Bailey’s and then head outside and do something active, go skiing or golfing, or a run or bike ride. Ideally, I would hit up a patio or local restaurant to meet up with some friends for dinner and enjoy some yummy food and great company!

YMM: What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?

MM: I quit my teaching job and booked a one-way ticket to New Zealand. This was scarier than moving across the country! When I landed; I was terrified. I immediately established all the things – an apartment, a job, and a fantastic circle of friends. I took a chance, found a groove, and made some lifelong friends! No regrets!

YMM: What is one challenge you’d like to tackle in 2023?

MM: Take more time to relax & breathe!
