YMM: What is the most rewarding part of your career?
PB: The most rewarding part of my career has been impacting people’s lives positively by providing guidance, support, information, referrals to newcomers and immigrants based on their settlement needs. For example in employment, education, housing, health and any concerns they may have in respect to settling in the community.
YMM: What is the best advice that you ever received?
PB: The best advice I ever received is not to beat yourself over life occurrences because life is a progression of experiences that we learn from. Be your own person, work hard in what you set out to do, and most importantly, on yourself, and the rest will fall in place.
YMM: What accomplishment are you most proud of?
PB: The accomplishment I am most proud of is having raised my son single-handedly and becoming a Canadian citizen.
YMM: How would friends and acquaintances describe you?
PB: My friends and acquaintances will describe me as a hardworking individual, knowledgeable in my line of work, caring and above all, friendly.
YMM: Who is your hero, and why?
PB: My hero is my little sister Faridah Nasimbwa Otieno, 25 years old. She was able to write a book at 21 years, migrated to Germany, worked hard in German language in three years, while pursuing her studies. She is now a Graduate in Geriatric Nursing and practicing.
