YMM: What keeps you in Fort McMurray?
TV: Fort McMurray started as an adventure with my Dad and became my home. This region has given me an incredible opportunity for growth and development. We have an amazing, supportive community; diverse, cultured, and full of character. The beauty of wood buffalo is unparalleled; diverging rivers, valleys and endless recreation. You can’t get this anywhere else. I have been inspired by our region’s resilience and am honoured to assist in the re-build and growth of the place we call home.
YMM: What does community mean to you?
TV: Community is what makes a place a home. Having a sense of community means knowing that you are safe, you are welcome, and you are supported. If you fall – the community will catch you. If you succeed, they celebrate with you. Community builds success and growth.
YMM: What accomplishment are you most proud of?
TV: I’ve gone from being a struggling single mom to having a fulfilling career. I couldn’t have done it without the support of friends and family and the opportunities in this city.
YMM: Who is your hero, and why?
TV: My parents. They have always been here, encouraging and supporting me. They are strong, patient, and hardworking people. My parents have taught me that we need to leave the world better than we’ve found it.
YMM: What three words best describe you?
TV: Driven, resourceful, resilient.
YMM: What is one thing you could improve in?
TV: I want to improve my knowledge. There is so much to learn and so little time. I also want to improve my public speaking skills and continue building my confidence and assertiveness.
