Brett & TJ Campbell
A Dynamic Duo Transforming Fort McMurray
CLASS OF 2024
Through Real Estate and Community Building TJ and Brett Campbell, two of Fort McMurray’s most respected real estate professionals, have not only made a name for themselves in the industry but also built a legacy of community service that has enriched their hometown.
Both recognized in Your McMurray Magazine’s Top 50 Under 50, the Campbell brothers have become synonymous with trust, integrity, and dedication—both in their professional careers and in their roles as community advocates.
The Campbell brothers’ ties to Fort McMurray run deep. TJ, 41, and Brett, 38, were both born and raised in the city, and their commitment to the region is evident in everything they do. Their story is one of returning to their roots, having spent time away for education and career development, only to come back to the place that shaped them.
TJ’s journey took him to the University of Alaska Fairbanks where he received an atheltic scholarship to play Division 1 hockey in the CCHA. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at UAF and after graduation, TJ played pro hockey in Salt Lake City Utah and Phoenix Arizona. After hockey retirement, TJ returned to the community that had supported him throughout his life. Brett’s path took him to Athol Murray College of Notre Dame and then the University of Victoria, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Both brothers eventually found themselves back in Fort McMurray, where their shared passion for real estate brought them together at Royal LePage Benchmark. Today, they work side by side as part of their family-run business, Wood Buffalo Property Group.
For both TJ and Brett, Fort McMurray is more than just a hometown; it’s a community they are fiercely dedicated to helping grow and thrive. They understand the challenges their city faces, from the fly-in/fly-out work culture that limits long-term population growth to the difficulties small businesses face with high commercial lease rates. Despite these challenges, they see a future full of potential, and they are working tirelessly to build a foundation for that future.
Both TJ and Brett have made a significant impact on the local real estate market, with a shared commitment to providing clients with more than just property transactions—they build lasting relationships. As real estate professionals, they view their work as an opportunity to help people make life-changing decisions, whether it’s purchasing their first home or selling a property to start a new chapter in life.
For TJ, real estate is about making a positive impact on his community. “The most rewarding part of my career is simply helping people,” he says. “Whether it’s helping someone find their first home, an investment property, or selling a home before retirement, there is always a gratification in helping someone meet their real estate goals.” His local expertise, combined with his genuine passion for service, has earned him a loyal client base and the respect of his peers.
Brett echoes his brother’s sentiments, noting that the most fulfilling aspect of his work is the opportunity to build meaningful connections with clients. “Real estate allows you to foster new relationships on a daily basis,” he shares. “It can be extremely rewarding to see people take possession of one of the biggest assets in their life.” Brett’s personal tagline, Building trust one transaction at a time, reflects his dedication to providing trustworthy, personalized service that meets the unique needs of each client.
Together, the Campbell brothers have established a reputation as one of the top real estate teams in the region, consistently ranking among the top 1% of Royal LePage agents nationwide. Their success is a testament to their hard work, shared values, and unwavering commitment to their clients.
While their professional accomplishments are impressive, it’s their contributions to Fort McMurray’s community that truly set TJ and Brett apart. Both brothers are deeply involved in local volunteer efforts, with a particular focus on supporting youth and sports initiatives. For TJ, giving back to the community is not just a passion—it’s a responsibility. “At one time, someone coached or mentored me in my youth, and I am just paying it forward,” he says. Whether it’s fundraising for the Justin Slade Youth Foundation, volunteering with Fort McMurray Minor Hockey, or supporting Santas Anonymous, TJ’s volunteer work has made a lasting impact on the region.
Brett’s commitment to community service is equally strong, particularly when it comes to supporting local sports programs. He has been a dedicated volunteer coach for Fort McMurray’s U7 hockey program for three years and has played an instrumental role in coordinating sponsorships for youth teams, helping to make sports more accessible to families. “Sports help children understand the importance of overcoming adversity, discipline, consistency, and commitment,” Brett reflects. “And most importantly, they help in developing relationships.” His personal investment in youth sports mirrors his belief in the transformative power of community and the importance of fostering a sense of belonging.
Both brothers also emphasize the importance of family in their volunteer work. As fathers, they are driven by the desire to give their children the same opportunities they had growing up. “My kids are my why,” says Brett, explaining that his own children’s involvement in hockey, dance, and gymnastics motivates him to continue supporting the activities that have meant so much to his family. Similarly, TJ’s family has always been involved in local charity and athletic organizations, with a focus on supporting youth and encouraging the next generation of community leaders.
As Fort McMurray continues to evolve, TJ and Brett remain focused on shaping its future through both their professional endeavors and their community involvement. For TJ, this means continuing to help Fort McMurray attract new residents and businesses. “Getting involved in the community allows you to make a direct contribution toward seeing the community grow,” he says. His vision is one of continued prosperity, driven by the hard work and dedication of local residents.
Brett shares this vision, noting that while Fort McMurray faces challenges—especially for small businesses—there is immense potential for growth. He believes that local businesses need more support, particularly in the form of subsidized lease rates, to thrive and contribute to a vibrant retail sector. “It’s extremely difficult for local businesses to survive with the current lease rates,” he observes. “But with the right support, we can create a more vibrant community.”
For both brothers, the future of Fort McMurray is bright. They are focused on balancing their professional success with their personal lives, ensuring they continue to serve as positive role models for their families and the community. Whether it’s through real estate, sports, or volunteer work, they are committed to making Fort McMurray a better place for generations to come.
TJ and Brett Campbell are more than just successful real estate agents—they are true advocates for the Fort McMurray community. Through their work in real estate, their dedication to local youth, and their commitment to building stronger community connections, they are shaping the future of their hometown, one relationship at a time. Their recognition as two of the Top 50 Under 50 is not just a celebration of their success, but a reflection of the deep impact they have had on Fort McMurray—both professionally and personally.
