Brodie Dransutavicius
Bringing Stories to Life in Fort McMurray
CLASS OF 2024
At just 32, Brodie Dransutavicius has made a name for himself as a passionate advocate for the arts in Fort McMurray, all while managing a successful career with UniFirst as a Route Sales Manager. Born and raised in Fort McMurray, Brodie’s roots run deep in the community. From his early days at Dickensfield Elementary, through high school at Westwood, and on to Keyano Community College, Brodie’s journey has been shaped by his love for storytelling, creativity, and the vibrant culture of his hometown.
Brodie’s professional path is as dynamic as it is diverse. His role at UniFirst keeps him on his toes, constantly learning and adapting to the fast-paced demands of his industry. “The fast-paced nature of the work I am involved in always keeps me learning and trying to problem solve,” he says, reflecting on what he finds most rewarding about his job. But it’s Brodie’s work outside of his day job—his contributions to the local arts scene—that truly sets him apart.
Since 2010, Brodie has been a dedicated volunteer with the Keyano Theatre, helping to produce high-level productions. With a background in acting and fight direction, and certification from Fight Directors Canada, he has become a go-to figure in the theater community, especially for his expertise in implementing safe fight choreography. Brodie has worked on numerous productions, assisting new playwrights in bringing their visions to life on stage. His tagline, Passionate storyteller, perfectly captures his commitment to crafting memorable experiences for audiences in Fort McMurray.
Brodie’s love for storytelling is deeply tied to his connection with the community. “This town has given me so much, so to be able to help provide high-level entertainment for those in the city is everything to me,” he shares. He is driven by the desire to create opportunities for people in Fort McMurray to enjoy live shows, fostering a sense of connection through shared cultural experiences. He believes that the unique energy of a live performance can create lasting memories, offering residents a chance to unwind and escape into a different world for a night.
A key aspect of Brodie’s work is the atmosphere he cultivates within the growing arts scene. He is known for encouraging others to push beyond their comfort zones, helping them build new skills and find their creative voice. His leadership in the theater has helped to foster a professional yet welcoming environment, inspiring others to explore their artistic sides. “Getting to see people grow as an artist and connect with others here is just one of those magic things Fort McMurray has to offer,” he says, reflecting on the impact of his efforts.
Looking to the future, Brodie has set his sights on a bold new goal: starting his own production company. He dreams of continuing to push the boundaries of art in Fort McMurray, creating opportunities for local talent and staging events that leave a lasting impact on those who experience them. “We are not here for a long time, and these moments that are unique and never replicated are something we should all embrace and be grateful to experience,” he says, emphasizing the power of art to bring people together and create unforgettable experiences.
Brodie recognizes that community-building comes with its challenges, especially in a place as dynamic as Fort McMurray. He acknowledges the unique struggles that different people face, but remains optimistic about the community’s resilience. “There are always challenges every community faces, but as long as there is an understanding that this is your home, I feel like there is so much we can work through,” he says. For Brodie, the key to addressing these challenges lies in the collective passion of Fort McMurray’s residents—people who care deeply about their town and are willing to work together to make a difference.
In his role as a mentor, artist, and community advocate, Brodie aims to inspire others to follow their passions. He believes that by supporting emerging artists and encouraging creativity, he can help Fort McMurray continue to grow as a hub for arts and culture. “If I can make it to the place where I am able to help sustain work for artists here, that would be a big win in my eyes,” he says.
Brodie’s journey has not been without its challenges, and he is candid about the struggles he faces, both personally and professionally. Yet, he remains committed to his vision and to the belief that no one should feel alone in their struggles. “Just know there are always people to help and don’t feel like there is no way for you,” he offers as a message to the community.
With his unwavering passion for storytelling and his deep commitment to the place he calls home, Brodie Dransutavicius is a driving force in Fort McMurray’s arts community. His recognition as one of the Top 50 Under 50 is a testament to his dedication, creativity, and the meaningful connections he has fostered throughout his hometown. Whether through his work on stage or his efforts to lift up others, Brodie is leaving a lasting legacy in the community he loves.
