Jason Vaughan

Often seen as the quiet, “behind the scenes” leader, Jason actively participates in creating opportunities for community members to network and build relationships all while enjoying the beauty of our regional golf facilities.

He is the Director of Golf & Grounds at Miskanaw Golf Club, and is known to support many social profit agencies in their fundraising endeavours. Jason encourages businesses of all sizes to do their part in building strong communities through donations or sponsorships.

YMM: What keeps you in Fort McMurray? (What do you consider to be the best things about the community?)

JV: I have called Fort McMurray home for the past 16 years. This community has been through so much. We have endured fires, floods, economic ups and downs and a global pandemic. Fort McMurray is full of great opportunities, great people and great golf courses. Fort McMurray has a fantastic golf community that I would find very tough not to be part of!

YMM: In your opinion, in what areas does Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo need improvement?

JV: Continuing to promote Fort McMurray by educating people from outside the region about how great the community is and continuing to promote all the recreational and business opportunities that are available.

YMM: What does community mean to you?

JV: Community is family and friends that come together to make their region something they are proud to call home. Gathering together, whether it’s a fundraiser golf tournament, a community BBQ, or events at MacDonald Island Park. Gatherings like this bring people together to celebrate the amazing community that we are lucky to have.

YMM: What would you say to your 10-year-old self?

JV: Enjoy every moment of every day because time flies. Express your feelings towards others. Take time to listen to people, be friendly, and smile. Friends, family and co-workers are people you want to be respected by, so work hard and earn their respect. Treat people the way you want to be treated.

YMM: What is one challenge you’d like to tackle in 2023?

JV: Finding ways to be more involved in the community by joining non-profit organizations and contributing to youth sports.

YMM: Who is your hero and why?

JV: My dad. My dad is a kind, thoughtful man that is always willing to go the extra mile for anyone. He is always thinking about others and is the first to help out in any situation. Whether it’s being a grandpa, husband or father, he is loved by all. He has always led by example and taught me so many valuable lessons! This is the reason I have been able to achieve my dreams and goals!
